JANUARY 2020 TVFTDO

This is the first monthly album I have created on the new site. It's not quite so straightforward to create as before but should produce better results.....eventually.

Anyway, this is January 2020 and the highlights include:

The visit of HMS Tyne to Dartmouth

Another house demolition (down on Castle Road, Dartmouth)

The death of a dolphin (found on the Kingswear slipway)

The visit of about 20-30 dolphins to the river Dart.

There are 138 Photos in this album over four pages. Click on a thumbnail to see it larger and then if you want start a slide show.

Lots of empty spaces at Darthaven as they repair and replace some of the pontoons. But what is going on below Dart Harbour's Hoodown shed...?

See, I told you so. The anchor is twice the height of the Dart Harbour guy alongside. It's probably more than twice his weight though.

It is very disconcerting when an smartphone can produce a picture as detailed as this. My new iPhone 11 seems to find detail in clouds that my Nikon does not.

Another iPhone shot. It's not that it takes better pictures than the Nikon. It's just that it's easier to take better pix. This would need a tripod and remote release on an SLR. In night mode, the iPhone can be hand held.

Still not certain which is the better of the two snaps. Backlit mist is real boon for a snapper. Once again, this mist is over Gallants Bower, due south of us.

The fourth house in as many years that we have seen demolished to make way for a more contemporary offering.
The house next door to this one has only just been completed. It's like Castle Road is becoming Construction City.

A bit of a guess, but there were probably at least thirty. One photo has eight on the surface so there would be more not visible at any given moment.

Dolphins in Dartmouth are not the easiest things to photograph. Anticipating where they might appear is quite an art. And I don't have it.

What a delight ! But was there a sad reason for this pod of dolphins to come into the river ? The day before the body of a small dolphin was found washed up on the slipway at the Royal Dart Yacht Club. Is it possible that this was his family coming to find him (or her) ? Note that these six above are right in front of us, in the harbour close to the Lower Ferry. An amazing sight for a Sunday morning
